How can tourism create value for both visitors and the people who call the city home?
And how can we create a fair and shared story about tourism — one that brings together different interests, perspectives and experiences?
Find out at the Positive Tourism Festival, taking place on Wednesday 7 and Thursday 8 October at Pakhuis de Zwijger in Amsterdam.
✨ A Special Moment
During this two-day event, organised by Inholland University of Applied Sciences, the City of Amsterdam and Pakhuis de Zwijger, new perspectives on tourism will take centre stage.
The festival marks the completion of two important initiatives to which Inholland’s New Urban Tourism Research Group has made a significant contribution: the European ConnACT project and the research project Shared Narrative on Tourism in Amsterdam.
Presenting a New Narrative for Tourism
One of the highlights of the festival is the presentation of the New Narrative on Tourism in Amsterdam.
This narrative was developed by Inholland and the City of Amsterdam together with a diverse group of residents, entrepreneurs, industry representatives, knowledge institutions, cultural organisations and policymakers.
Discussions about tourism often focus on its negative effects, such as overcrowding, nuisance and pressure on quality of life. At the same time, there is a growing need to explore how tourism can make a positive contribution to Amsterdam and its communities.
The new narrative offers a shared and future-oriented perspective, while leaving room for different voices and experiences. It invites us to look at tourism differently, recognise new opportunities and take shared responsibility for the future of the city.
From tourism in the city to tourism for the city.
